Filippo Volandri was born in Livorno (Italy) the 5th of September 1981 and his height is 182 cm. He’s a professional tennis player since 1998. He’s the best Italian player since 2003, year in which Filippo came up and took the limelight defeating some top world players and rising quickly the ATP ranking. He got into the top 50 players of the world on age 22. In the same year he got imazine results, as instance the quarter finals achieved at the Master Series in Rome and Monte Carlo. In 2004 he still went up (n.35 in the world), claiming his first ATP Title at the Austrian Open in St.Polten and achieving two finals, in Palermo and Umag. He is one of the top players in the world on clay, surface that Filippo do prefer and where he got his best career results. In September 2004 he was elected as "player of the month" by the International Professional Tennis Players Association. In 2005 achieved the 3rd round at Roland Garros, the semifinals in Umag, Casablanca and Vina del Mar, but overall he got big results with the quarter finals achived in two important Masters Series: Monte Carlo and Hamburg. These results have improuved his best ranking career: n.28 in the world. In 2006, he won the ATP Tournament of Palermo, claiming his second ATP career title. In this season, he also was runner-up in Buenos Aires and Bucharest, semifinalist in Doha, Umag and Sopot and he reached the quarters in Valencia. In the first part of season 2007, he got excellent results, reaching the semifinal in Rome (29 years after Adriano Panatta) and defeating the world n.1 Roger Federer in two sets. Few weeks later, Filippo got another great result, reaching the 4th round at Roland Garros, beating the world n.7 Ivan Ljubicic in 5 sets. Few time later he got another important semifinal in Bastad (Sweden). These results brought him to his higher career ranking: n.25! In 2008 Filippo won the title (100.000$+H) in San Marino and in Cordenons and reached the semifinals in Buenos Aires and the quarter final in Costa du Sauipe. In 2009 Filippo has been runner-up in Trani Challenger (50.000$+H), semifinalist in other three Challenger tournaments (Cordenons, Milan and Rome) and he reached the quarter-final in Rimini and Como. Filippo has been for several years the first singles player of the Italian National Team. He lives in Firenze, where he has training at the Florence Tennis School with his inseparable coach Fabrizio Fanucci. Both on-court and off-court, Filippo is very considered by the other players and by the people for his gentleman way to act. He loves his Tuscany. He likes to spend time with friends and with his parents and his sister Veronica, tennis teacher. Filippo’s father is an important manager of a chemist industry and the president of the Livorno Tennis Club, where Filippo began to play tennis. He loves music (Robbie Williams and pop-music) and cinema (thrillers are his passion). Among the "reality-shows" he only likes l’Isola dei Famosi. He got the diploma of accountancy. He couldn’t live without CocaCola, which Filippo uses to drink even during the tournaments. He is a big fan of the sports, especially of basketball and soccer. His favourite soccer team is Livorno, although he’s a great fan of Paolo Maldini as an example of professional athlete. He admires a lot Stefan Edberg and his secret dream is to win the Roland Garros. His biggest tennis emotion ever has been the win over Roger Federer on the center court in Rome, in May 2007.
